How to host a murder mystery party at home
Four steps, about 30 minutes of preparation, and a night your friends will talk about.
Hosting a murder mystery party is simpler than it looks once the story is written for you. Choose a kit that matches your guest count, send the invitations, print the documents, and follow the host guide on the night. Our kits play with 6 to 12 guests in 2 to 3 hours depending on the kit.
1. Count your guests first
The number of players decides everything. From 6 to 12, a murder mystery kit where everyone plays a suspect. From 1 to 7, a cooperative detective case file where everyone investigates together. Above 12, a custom scenario.
2. Send roles before the night
Give each guest their character a few days ahead so they can think about a costume. The identity page can be shared; the secret sheet stays private until the evening.
3. Print and set the table
About 30 minutes: read the host guide, print the character sheets and the evidence on a home printer, and prepare the voting ballots. At ten players and more, print a second set of evidence so nobody waits.
4. Run the three acts
Twenty minutes of silent reading, then three acts where the host releases evidence and guests question each other, then the accusation and the read-aloud reveal. Count 2 to 3 hours depending on the kit, easy to spread across a dinner.
Why choose Murder to Order?

Everything you want to know
It depends on the kit; the host guide says so. In Dead Air at Midnight the host can play and investigate like the others, because the solution is not in the printed PDF.
Our kits run 2 to 3 hours of play depending on the kit, plus about 30 minutes of preparation.
Set their role aside: the guide names the optional characters, and the solution does not change.
