Extra players come through expansion packs, $32.95 for fourteen more characters on that game, sold as downloads and not compatible with the boxed version. That model is built for scale. Their catalog covers groups from four to more than three hundred, and if you are running a company party for sixty people, a game designed to grow to fifty-five unique roles is a real advantage.

Most home parties are not sixty people. They are eight friends around a dining table, or eleven relatives at a birthday, and the host has a job, a week and a printer. For that party, three details in the large catalog model start to weigh. The first is assembly. A download has to be printed, cut and sorted into rounds, and independent reviewers of the format have pointed out that the host, while cutting and stuffing clues, reads things the host would rather not read.
